Through completion of a Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) with the University of South Australia her interest in gerontology, or the study of older adults and ageing, was developed. From her first study project interviewing older men and women who were taking care of their spouses with dementia she has continued to pursue professional and research opportunities in ageing. Justine is passionate about gerontology and excited about the ever-growing opportunities an ageing population brings.
Justine is highly experienced in qualitative and quantitative methodologies and research methods such as literature reviews, systematic reviews, case studies, focus groups, consultations, interviews, and survey design, testing, conduct, management, analysis and write up. She enjoys contributing to applied projects and research developed in response to real life need and that which can have a direct positive impact on individuals, groups or wider systems. Subject matter areas with which she has experience include ageing, older workers, retirement planning and outcomes, ageism, end of life care, residential/long term care, gender and later life, disability and ageing, social and emotional wellbeing, children in institutionalized care/Forgotten Australians/Former Child Migrants, early childhood education, cancer care and outcomes, simulation, clinical placement, mental health, aged care assessment, and veteran health.
Justine very recently completed a project for HelpAge International exploring the impact of COVID-19 on mortality in long-term care settings across the Asia Pacific. She is currently supporting HelpAge International and Asia Development Bank to design a community based aged care service in the Maldives.
